Twin Houses in Maresme

Two identical, but different houses. With the same starting scheme, each house changes depending on its location - the views, the orientation, the topography - and the variations in the way each family uses the space.

The house and the location.

Sea views, pine forests and hills dotted with vineyards are characteristic features of this site: two adjoining plots of land for two houses of two families of twin brothers.

Two identical, but different houses. With the same starting scheme, each house changes depending on its location - the views, the orientation, the topography - and the variations in the way each family uses the space.

The organization of the house.

The project consists of the grouping of different volumes of different pieces of the program. These are displaced among themselves to adapt to the terrain and create an outdoor space for each space.

With displacements and rotations, views are maximized, different platforms are produced at different levels and the relationship between inside and outside is enriched.

Each room has its own secluded garden, allowing different uses of the plot space throughout the year.

The use of traditional materials (Klinker bricks and wood) made it possible to integrate the house into the context.

Garden:

One of the most important aspects of the project was the landscaping work.

With a large plot size, a steep slope, especially on the Monges Street plot, together with a type of soil that is not very cohesive, several challenges have arisen:

  1. consolidate the land in a respectful, sustainable and as minimally interventionist way as possible. In this sense, we have opted for the formation of as few retaining walls as possible and in the rest of the slopes we have chosen hydroseeding, on organic stabilization blankets, with carefully selected native species.
  2. For the vegetation of the garden we have chosen to create a Mediterranean garden with local plants. The town of Sant Andreu de Llavaneras is located in an area whose natural boundaries are formed to the south by the sea, and to the north by the mountains, valleys and forests of the protected nature reserves Montnegre and Corredor Park, Cordillera Litoral Park, Serra de Marina Park. One of the key values of these reserves is the high biodiversity of local (native) plants that has been incorporated into the vegetation project. It was partly as a contribution to the preservation of the natural balance, but also as a strategy to reduce the consumption of resources, as the native plants have adapted to the intense sunlight and lack of humidity over the centuries, so the garden will grow and flourish even with minimal watering and care.

The small patio leading to the house has been accentuated, where more formal plants have been selected to produce a play of shapes, sizes and shades. A small garden, whose main accent will be a special type of magnolia.
